Character history[]

Jaws[]

In Jaws, Michael is introduced as a rambunctious 10 or 13 year old who loves boating and swimming with his friends. He initially hurts his hand on the swing outside the Brody household, pretending he was bitten by a vampire, prompting Ellen to tend to him as Martin heads out to work. He is later the victim of an attack when he and his friends take the dinghy out into the estuary. A boater approaches the boys, but they are all knocked into the water by the shark. Michael witnesses the shark devour the boater and is sent into a state of shock, with Martin and the other boys dragging him onto shore.

Alternate estuary attack scene[]

An alternate version of the estuary attack shows the boater saving Michael as he is being dragged by the shark, but was ultimately cut from the film for being too gruesome.

Jaws 2[]

In Jaws 2, Michael is a 17-year-old teenager and has a new hobby of sailing with his friends in the ocean. After Chief Brody discovers a dead orca washed up on the beach with two large bite marks on it and suspects the bite is from a shark, he disallows Michael his sailing privileges and promptly grounds him. Mike is then forced to work community service on the beach while his friends sail without him. After a night at the bar with his friends, Mike disobeys his father by sneaking out to go sailing with his friends, after his love interest Jackie Peters goads him to, but his younger brother Sean catches him and blackmails Mike into bring him along.

After an argument at the dock, Marge, one of Mike's friends, playfully lets Sean come in her boat with her, and they head out. The shark attacks the teens, hitting one of their boats and causing most of them to capsize and crash into each other in the ensuing panic, throwing several of them in the water. Michael hits his head on the boom of his catamaran and is knocked unconscious when it capsizes. When Jackie alarms the others to save Mike, the shark resurfaces and heads for him. Polo and Timmy rescue Michael in the nick of time, just as the shark breaches the surface and it swims away. Polo and Timmy sail their boat towards land to get help. Sean and the others remain adrift on the wreckage of tangled boats, floating towards Cable Junction.

Out by the lighthouse, Martin locates Polo and Timmy's boat with Michael onboard. Michael apologizes to his dad and tells him that Sean is with the others. Martin tells the boys to get to the lighthouse and stay there and he takes off to rescue Sean and the other teens.

Jaws 3-D[]

in Jaws 3-D, Michael has left Amity and now works at SeaWorld as a chief engineer and is in a relationship with senior biologist Kathryn "Kay" Morgan.

When Shelby Overman disappears on the job, Michael and Kay set out to recover his body, but are ambushed mid-search by a baby great white shark. Michael and FitzRoyce initially suggest killing it, but Kay wants to keep it at the park, convincing Calvin it would be a star attraction. After the baby shark dies when it is prematurely put on display, Michael and Kay are alerted to the discovery of Overman's rotted corpse. The markings on his corpse indicate the presence of a much larger shark, Kay deducing its the baby's mother.

When the mother shark is flushed out of her hiding spot in the filtration pipe, she begins to wreak havoc on the park. Michael frantically drives around the park in a golf kart, alerting guests and employees to evacuate the water. The shark attacks a ski show, and Michael charters a speedboat to rescue Sean and Kelly at the bumper boats beach. Sean and Kelly manage to evade the shark, but Kelly's leg is bitten, Michael arriving just in time to administer medical help. When Calvin evacuates the park, the shark attacks the Undersea Kingdom, flooding one of the underwater tunnels and trapping guests in one of the observation hubs. Michael and Kay finally decide to attempt to kill it, enlisting FitzRoyce and Jack for assistance. They decide to trap it in the filtration pipe. Hearing the shark has been lured into the pipe, Michael and Kay go down to repair the underwater tunnel so the technicians can drain the water and rescue the trapped guests. Calvin orders the pump to be shut down to suffocate the shark, but this act instead allows her to break free from the pipe and ambush Michael and Kay, but they are saved by the dolphins. They make their way back to the control room, but the shark reappears and crashes through the glass, flooding the room and killing a technician. Michael notices FitzRoyze's corpse still in the shark's throat with a grenade, and uses a bent pole to pull its pin, killing the shark. In the aftermath, Mike and Kay celebrate with their dolphins, who survived their brush with the shark.

Jaws: The Revenge[]

In Jaws: The Revenge, Michael is a marine biologist pursing a PhD and is happily married to a sculpture artist, Carla, and had a daughter named Thea. After Michael's younger brother Sean is attacked and killed by a great white shark while on duty, he invites his mother, Ellen, to the Bahamas following the funeral for a Christmas vacation. Later while out on a dive, he encounters the same shark that attacked Sean; it followed them from Amity. Jake, Michael's friend and colleague, is eager to do research on the shark, because great white sharks hardly come to the Bahamas as the water there is too warm, and sharks are misunderstood creatures, but Michael asks him not to mention the shark due to Ellen's attempts to convince him to find a job on land.

Thea goes on an inflatable banana boat with her friend Margaret and her mother, while Carla presents her new art sculpture. The shark goes for Thea but attacks and kills Margaret's mother instead. Thea and Carla are traumatized following the attack. Ellen steals a boat, Neptune's Folly, to track down the shark, intending to kill it to save the rest of her family. After hearing about what happened, Mike confesses about the shark, infuriating Carla. Mike and Jake are flown by Hoagie to search for Ellen and find the shark in pursuit of their boat. During the search, Hoagie explains to Mike about Ellen's belief that the shark that killed Sean is after her family. When they finally find her, Hoagie lands the plane on the water, ordering Mike and Jake to swim to the boat as the shark drags the plane and Hoagie underwater.

Fortunately, Hoagie escapes from the shark. Jake and Mike hastily reprogram the transmitter tag attached to the shark to give off electrical impulses, driving the shark crazy. Jake manages to feed the shark the reprogrammed tag, but is dragged underwater, breaking off the bowsprit in the process. Mike begins to blast the shark with the impulses, causing it to roar and leap out of the water as Ellen steers the sailboat towards the shark. The broken bowsprit impales the shark, killing it. Mike then hears Jake calling for help, critically injured but alive and conscious, floating in the water. Wishing his mother goodbye, Ellen hopes that Mike, Carla, Thea, and Louisa would visit Amity next summer, and implores Mike to take care of Jake.

Jaws Unleashed []

In Jaws Unleashed, 20 years after Jaws: the Revenge was released, Michael Brody, at his early-40's, is now a marine biologist, who captured the 35-foot great white shark for research, only to have it put in a holding tank in a large aquarium similar to Sea World. The shark, who is the main playable character, manages to escape the aquarium after killing an orca whom used to live at the aquarium, and leaving the Aquarium destroyed. After this mission, the shark is free to roam.

Brody continues trying to capture or kill the shark throughout the game, only for the shark to sink Michael's boat, kill Mayor Vaughn, Shaw, and Cruz after the shark destroyed the Orca 2, only for Brody to be rescued by a coast guard helicopter. However, the shark is still alive, following the chopper into the sunset.

Trivia[]

  • Michael and his brother Sean are the only two characters to appear in all four Jaws films.
