Jaws 3D is a film based on a spin off concept loosely following the true life Amity Incident, as well as the characters portrayed in Jaws and Jaws2. This was the third installment in the Jaws film franchise, and the first produced in 3D.

Summary

In the film, directed by Joseph Alves Jr., Michael Brody now works at SeaWorld Orlando, which has just had its grand opening with a new underwater glass tunnel as one of its newest feature attractions.

A baby shark of undefined origin enters the park, and soon after being caught, the baby shark dies. The baby shark's 35-foot long mother then too enters SeaWorld with a vengeance, terrorizing guests, and killing several people in its wake.

Ultimately the mother shark ('Brucetta') is finally destroyed in a like manner as depicted in the first film by a specialist diving team hired at the request of the greedy ocean park manager Calvin Bouchard.

Reception

Jaws 3 did well at the box office due to a strong marketing campaign, however it did not do very well with critics citing its lack of quality filmmaking in contrast to the previous 2 installments. The fact the film was shot in 3-D and was edited to take advantage of the effect with long holds to further accentuate the gimic likely added to the initial critical disdain. None the less the audience bought into the concept accepting the premise on a purely entertainment level, and the film has now gained something of a cult following.
