Cable Junction as the kids head towards it

Cable Junction is a small island housing an electrical relay station that supplies power to Amity, seen in the climax of Jaws 2.

Role in Jaws 2[]

Cable Junction is at an unspecified distance from Amity Island in Massachussets. Cable Junction seems to be a power station that is built onto a small, possibly manmade rock island in the ocean and houses the cables that give Amity and its neighboring islands their electrical power. When Sean asks what's beyond Cable Junction, Doug jokes the Atlantic Ocean and then Ireland.

Ultimately after the shark strands the teens on their sailboats, they decide the best course of action is to make it to Cable Junction. They manage to approach the island, but the upside down sails become stuck on underwater rocks, stranding them mere feet from safety. When Martin arrives, the shark attacks again, causing Martin to crash the police boat onto the island's disused dock. He tries again by pulling them closer to the island with a winch but instead hooks an underwater power cable. The shark attacks the boats again, sending most of the teenagers into the water, and they swim to the edge of Cable Junction; Jackie Peters and Sean remain stranded on the boats as the shark circles them. Using an inflatable raft, Martin hits the power cable with an oar to lure the shark toward him with vibrations. The shark resurfaces and Martin challenges it. The shark rushes towards him and bites the cable, electrocuting and finally killing it, its charred body sinks to the bottom. Martin retrieves Sean and Jackie and they join the others on Cable Junction to await rescue.

Role in Jaws Unleashed[]

The Cable Junction makes a non-interactive appearance in the game, and the player is unable to bite any power cables.

Trivia[]

  • Cable Junction was made of painted fiberglass rocks and was towed to where it was needed on water sets. It was not an actual island.
  • At one point during filming, the Cable Junction set broke loose from its anchorage and had to be rescued. Director Jeannot Szwarc was contacted one night and told that his island was drifting towards Cuba, as the climax was filmed off the coast of Florida.
